About Mana

Mana Hotta

I am an experienced and accredited London-based Japanese counsellor and psychotherapist. I have worked as a counsellor/psychotherapist in diverse organisations both in Japan and in the UK. I am currently working as a Specialist Counsellor at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre, where I am specialised in providing support to people who experienced sexual assault and rape. I also offer Clinical Supervision.

I work as an integrative therapist, and use various approaches tailored to each client's needs to maximize the therapeutic space. I notably use psychodynamic and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapies.

I believe that everyone has their own resilience to cope with difficulties in life and heal themselves, and my fundamental role is to assist clients in drawing the ability in themselves.

What are Counselling and Psychotherapy?

The terms Counselling and Psychotherapy are often used interchangeably, and have many similarities. Both refer to a safe and confidential space to talk about issues that you are facing. However, counselling is often referred to as short-term therapy where you focus on your current issues and how to cope with them. Psychotherapy offers longer-term therapy not only to work on current issues, but also to understand what is underneath them so that you will have a deeper understanding of the issues and how to cope with them.

Counselling and Psychotherapy can assist you to understand and cope with difficulties in your life. I have particular expertise and experience in the following areas:

  • Sexual violence & abuse

  • Mental Health & Well-being

  • Relationship with yourself, others, the World

  • Challenging Life Events
